Attachment and Trauma Therapy for Adults and Couples

Online attachment and trauma therapy with Jennifer Nurick, clinical psychotherapist and author of Heal Your Anxious Attachment.

Do you feel anxious in relationships, fear rejection or need frequent reassurance? Or do you pull away, shut down or feel trapped when someone gets too close? These anxious and avoidant attachment patterns can leave you feeling disconnected from yourself and caught in painful relationship cycles. Therapy can help you understand these patterns, heal the wounds beneath them and build greater security within yourself and your relationships.

Do You Recognise These Attachment Patterns?

Attachment difficulties can look different for everyone. You may experience anxious attachment, avoidant attachment or a mixture of both.

  • Overthinking messages or changes in someone’s tone
  • Fearing rejection, abandonment or losing the relationship
  • Needing frequent reassurance to feel secure
  • Losing yourself while trying to maintain connection
  • Feeling drawn to emotionally unavailable partners
  • Pulling away, shutting down or needing space when intimacy feels intense
  • Feeling trapped in recurring anxious–avoidant relationship cycles
  • Becoming emotionally overwhelmed when past trauma is triggered

How Attachment Therapy Can Help

Anxious and avoidant attachment patterns are not personal flaws. They are protective responses that often develop through childhood experiences, emotional neglect, relational trauma or relationships in which connection did not feel consistently safe.

In attachment therapy, we gently explore the wounds and protective patterns beneath relationship anxiety, emotional withdrawal and overwhelm. This work can help you develop greater self-understanding, compassion and choice, so you can respond from your adult Self and create more secure relationships.

An Integrative Approach to Attachment and Trauma Therapy

I tailor therapy to your history, needs and preferences, drawing from more than 21 years of clinical and healing experience. My approach may include:

  • Attachment-based therapy to understand how early relationships continue to influence present-day patterns
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) and parts work to develop compassionate relationships with protective and wounded parts
  • EMDR to process unresolved trauma and distressing experiences
  • Somatic psychotherapy to work with emotions and experiences held in the body
  • Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy to help couples recognise and change painful relational cycles
  • Energy healing, where appropriate, as part of a grounded and integrative approach
